Frequently Asked Questions
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the method of permanently removing hair from the face and body by the application of an electrical current to the dermal papilla to cause decomposition, coagulation, dehydration, or other forms of tissue deconstruction to permanently disable the hair follicle from producing a hair. It is the only FDA approved permanent hair removal.
Can Electrolysis be done on any skin tone and/or hair color?
Yes! It can be done on any skin color and/or hair color.
Why do I have excess hair growth?
There are many contributing factors to unwanted hair growth on the face and body. Most often,it is often the result of typical biological changes in both men and women. As a person progresses through puberty, pregnancies, menopause and aging, hormonal fluctuations occur, which may contribute to hair growing in areas that have never been affected. Unwanted hair may also be contributed to heredity, side effects of medication, stress, and endocrine dysfunction. Endocrine dysfunction may result in irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders, such as PCOS, diabetes or thyroid irregularities.
How is it done?
Your electrologist is trained to insert a fine filament into the opening of the follicle. Once inserted, a measured amount of current is released to the hair root. After a series of treatments, this process will result in permanent hair removal. This is a commitment that doesn’t happen in one treatment.
Medical Conditions and Electrolysis?
Generally speaking, electrolysis is safe for most medical conditions. However, if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, hemophilia, any artificial joints or implants, such as a pacemaker, are on accutane, pregnant, have botox, fillers, a hair in a mole, please let me know. Usually I can treat you regardless of these conditions, but I may ask for a note from your physician depending on the circumstances.
For your safety, the areas I cannot treat are the hairs inside the nose and ear canal.
How long is a typical appointment?
This can only be determined by the electrologist assessment of the area to be treated during consultation.
How long will it take to see results?
There are a lot of variables when determining how long it will take to see results.Volume, density, where the hair is located, hormonal disruptions, how have you been treating hairs before electrolysis are all variables.
That being said, to complete an area, it usually takes one and a half to three years.
